Reminder to all girls going out for track & field, practice begins Monday. Be sure to bring warm clothing …. if the weather is decent, we will be running outside.

Any Freshman who did not get a Root Beer Float this week will be able to purchase one on Friday. There will be no Root Beer Floats today because of Olweus during DST today.

Student Senate is now selling cans of Crush pop for your crushes today this week during lunch shifts. Crushes are being sold for $1. They will be sent out on Feb. 14 during your DST.

V-Day is a day of love – at Maquoketa High School its a day to give a voice to those without one. Check out the library for the featured books and videos that tell the stories of children and women who have faced violence and had their voice taken away.

Hearts on Fire Event this Saturday night at Pearson Hall – doors open at 5:30pm. Hometown Cafe Dinner, Jammers, games and auctions (both silent and live)! All proceeds go to buying Maquoketa Rescue Squad a Grain Bin Rescue Tube and helping Jade Harris with her upcoming surgeries due to injuries suffered from a house fire.

Student Senate raised $58 for Middle School student Jade Harris last night by sponsoring a half court shot contest at the Boys Basketball Game. Thank you to those who participated.

Student Senate is now selling cans of Crush pop for your crushes today and Thursday this week during lunch shifts. Crushes are being sold for $1. They will be sent out on Feb. 14 during your DST.

Any boys or girls who are going out for tennis this spring NEED to sign up to work at the concessions stand on Friday night. There are not enough people to work now so you should sign up or find someone to replace you. The sign-up will be posted outside of Mrs. Raker’s room on Wednesday.

Congratulations to CAGE Large Group Students on Saturday’s competition! We received 5 Division I ratings for five groups, and one group received a Division II rating. It was a great day!

CAGE students participating in Individuals this weekend. I have to see you at least once before you can go to WAMAC contest in DeWitt this weekend. And the rule is, that if you do not attend WAMAC, you cannot attend Districts in Tipton, so please sign up and get in for rehearsals!

Student Senate raised $47 for Middle School student Jade Harris last Thurs night by sponsoring a half court shot contest at the Girls Basketball Game. Thank you to those who participated. This event will take place again Tues night Feb 7 during half time of the Varsity Boys Basketball Game. Bring a dollar and show your support for Jade.

There will be an FCCLA meeting Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. in Mrs. Spalding’s room. All FCCLA members should plan to attend.

Spend your Valentine’s Dinner, February 11th feasting on Hometown Cafe’s Chicken or Ham, salads, mashed potatoes and desserts, playing games for prizes, buying yourself a Fireman, and dancing the night away to Jammer! And, making a difference for the local farmers in the area and 7th grade fire victim Jade Harris. All proceeds from this event go to Maquoketa Fire Rescue to purchase a Grain Bin Rescue Tube and Joy for Jade to help with Jade’s upcoming medical procedures at Mayo Clinic.

Varsity Volleyball Girls- don’t forget Mrs. Taylor is taking your photo in the new gym during DST. Check in with your DST teacher first.

There will be a Spanish and French club meeting to confirm ski trip participation Thursday at 7:45am in Ms. Clabaugh’s room (301).

There will be an FCCLA council meeting Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. in Mrs. Spalding’s room. All FCCLA council members should plan to attend.

If you missed the light dance, or just can’t wait to see it again, the dance team will be performing it again this Friday night at half-time of the varsity game.

Golf hitting will be today after school on the stage.

Freshman basketball players, there will NOT be practice today after school today. Those of you who played JV last night need to go to the JV/Varsity practice right after school.

Any girls planning on going out for the track and field team this spring need to attend a mandatory meeting during DST today in Mr. Beadle’s DST Room # 203. If you are unable to attend, please let Mr. Beadle know prior to the meeting date.

Attention everyone! Student Senate is now going to sponsor a half-court shot contest at half-time of tonight’s varsity basketball game. Pay $1 for a chance to make a half-court shot and win a king sized candy bar. All proceeds will go to Jade Harris and her medical expenses. Jade is a Maquoketa Middle School student who was burned severely in a house fire at a young age.

ART CLUB MEETING: Game Night. next Thursday 5:45 pm. Come on down to the art room for a night full of games and good times. Refreshments will be provided and there is no cost. For questions please see Miss Bresnan or Mrs. Bowman.

The Hearts on Fire fun night is Feb 11th – there will be a catered meal by Hometown Cafe, games and a bounce house, Jammer playing at 8pm. All proceeds from this event will be used by Maquoketa Rescue Squad to purchase a Grain Bin Rescue Tube and to help local 7th grade fire victim Jade Harris with her upcoming treatments through Mayo Clinic.

V-Day is coming up on Feb 14th – while we celebrate love and happiness, many women and children throughout the world suffer in silence because they have no voice. Watch for up coming V-day activities hosted by Student Senate and club hOpe.

It’s once again time for the Optimist Club’s Oratorical contest. The topic this year is “How My Optimism Helps Me Overcome Obstacles.” Local prizes are $100 for the first place boy and first place girl and $50 each for second place speakers.

FFA members that presented the US Flag on Friday and Saturday night at the Rodeo are to be commended on a job well done. Mr. Bruns received numerous positive comments about your actions before, during and after the flag presentations.

First Semester Honor Roll has been released. It is posted on the big bulletin board in the commons area and also near the Guidance Office door. Please check it to make sure it is accurate. If you feel an error has been made, please let the main office know.

All proceeds from this event go to Maquoketa Fire Rescue Squad to purchase a Grain Bin Rescue Tube and Jade Harris, a 7th grade fire victim who will be undergoing treatments at Mayo Clinic in the upcoming months! Ms. Waack’s 3rd Block Intro to Psychology will be eating 1st lunch today.

club hOpe would like to say Thank You again to the students, staff and community who took part in Dance Marathon in Dec. Because of your efforts, our club is being recognized at the 24 Hour Dance Marathon for the amount of money we raised! We will be taking the stage at 4pm next Sat Feb 4th – and will be do so with you in mind because without all of you we could have never raised over $8,000 in one night. Thanks again!

club hOpe members – you must be signed up to go to Dance Marathon next Sat Feb 4th by 1pm today. I have to turn in the list of names to University of Iowa today. If you are not on the list – you cannot go.

club hOpe will be selling Valentine’s Day cookies next week at lunch – they are $5 a doz and will be delivered on Feb 14th during DST.

Chamber Choir students will be leaving at 11:30 to go over to cardinal. Please meet in the vocal room at that time.

Kelly Gerlach, from the newspaper, will be here Friday morning at 7:50AM to take pictures and interview any of the large group participants who went to contest last week. We will be meeting in Mrs. Krum’s classroom.
