Girl Rising -

a film produced by 10X10

This award winning documentary film focuses on the lives of 9 girls living around the world and how their lack of access to education impacts their lives. Some of them choose to fight for an education while others fall victim to the rules of culture and society. This film is to promote the need for education and WHY educating girls is so important.

Please consider sending your Wednesday night with us…becoming global citizens while being reminded how lucky we are that we have access to FREE public education regardless of gender.

The movie will be showing at the Ohnward Fine Arts Center

May 8th with a start time of 7pm.

The movie will run 120 minutes. Doors will open for this showing at 6pm.

Cost is $5 per person regardless of age.

This film is open to ANY students, staff, former staff, any parents or Alumni of the Maquoketa School District

This film is appropriate for anyone 5th grade and higher, but it is up to you if you want to bring in kids under this grade level.

** All funds raised during this film will go back to paying for the cost of the film to come to Maquoketa and then to the travel expenses for the club hOpe members traveling to Kenya, Africa this summer and to We Day this fall.

Maquoketa High School Junior and Senior Art students Traveled to Clinton for Clinton Community College Fine Arts Days on Friday, April 19th. 7 area high schools participated. Students representing Maquoketa High School were Maddi Owen, Lucas Long, Amber Nigh, Brittany Goetzinger, Korey Schepers, Tate Rowan, Jillian Linhart, Tanna Brimeyer, Michaela Kelly, Riley Fern, and Hannah White.

Lucas Long was awarded 3rd place in 3-D art for a metal sculpture. Maddi Owen received 2nd place in the Mixed Media category for an ink and watercolor painting, and Riley Fern was awarded Best in Show for her acrylic painting.

Day Camp: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Cost: $25 per student

Note: There will be 3-4 adult chaperones in attendance along with your child’s staff and drama coaches.

What to Bring

1) Sack lunch labeled on the outside with your child’s name. Juice & snacks will be provided.

2) Sweat suit or comfortable clothes to move around in & comfortable shoes.

3) Family medical information (not responsible for coverage of child @ camp).

NOTE: No camera, radio, cell phone, or other electronic devices are allowed on the child during the camp. Any equipment of this kind will be taken away by the coaches and returned at the end of the day when the parent arrives.

Prom tickets will be on sale during all lunch shifts starting Thursday, March 21 – Wednesday, March 27….If you are unable to purchase during lunch, please see Mrs. Wiggins.

High School dance team tryouts for the 2013-14 season will be held Friday, March 22nd at 5:00pm. There will be practices to learn the tryout routines on Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 21 from 4:00-5:30 in the dance room and gym at the high school. You will have to attend at least one practice date before try out.
