INTRODUCTION TO ART STUDIO 9-10-11-12 1 Year – .5 Unit Each Sem.
Using a variety of media, students will explore the elements of design: line, shape, texture, value, color, and form and the principles of arranging these elements in space. During the first semester, emphasis will be placed upon development of drawing skills. Second semester projects will be utilizing the elements and principles in a variety of media. Weekly assignments in a 9″ x 12″ sketchpad required. This class is a prerequisite for all other art courses. Students will be financially responsible for specific material.
2-D ART 10-11-12 1st Semester – .5 Unit Each Sem.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art Studio
2-D Art students will be introduced to the study of textile design: tie-dye and batik and painting techniques and originality through the use of canvas, acrylics, tempera, and watercolor. Students will be financially responsible for specific materials.
3-D ART 10-11-12 2nd Semester – .5 Unit
Prerequisite: Introduction to Art Studio
Ceramics/Pottery course focuses on creating three-dimensional works out of clay and ceramic material. Particular attention is paid to the characteristics of the raw materials, their transformation under heat, and the various methods used to create and finish objects.
INTERMEDIATE ART 11-12 1 Year – .5 Unit Each Sem.
Prerequisite: 2-D/3-D Art
First Semester – Sculpture course focuses on creating three-dimensional works. Students typically work with mixed media.
Second Semester – Visual art will enable students to explore a particular art form or topic. This semester will serve as an opportunity for students to expand their expertise in a particular form or style, to explore a topic in greater detail, or to develop more advanced skills.
ADVANCED ART 12 1 Year – .5 Unit Each Sem.
Prerequisite: Intermediate Art
Advanced Art provides students with the knowledge and opportunity to explore an art form and to create individual works of art. This course may also provide a discussion and exploration of career opportunities in the art world. Initial course covers the language, materials, and processes of a particular art form and the design elements and principles supporting a work of art. As students advance and become more adept, the instruction regarding the creative process becomes more refined, and students are encouraged to develop their own artistic styles. Although Advanced Art focuses on creation, it may also include the study of major artist, art movements, and styles.
PHOTOGRAPHY 11-12 1 Semester – .5 Unit
Prerequisite: 2 years of Art
Photography courses expose students to the materials, processes, and artistic techniques of taking artistic photographs. Students learn about the operation of a camera, composition, lighting techniques, depth of field, filters, camera angles, and film development. The course may cover black and white photography, color photography, or both. As students advance, the instruction regarding the creative process becomes more refined, and students are encouraged to develop their own artistic style. These courses may also cover major photographers, art movements, and styles.
